Issei. The most underrated rooftop bar in Milan.

Have a captivating urban experience with no crowd in the heart of the city.

Dear friends, today I want to share with you an amazing rooftop spot that I believe is highly underrated. Amidst the sea of restaurant advertisements, ratings, and reviews on social media, this hidden gem has managed to escape the spotlight.

Located on the rooftop of the stunning 5-star Radisson Collection Santa Sofia hotel, you’ll find a fantastic bar called Issei. Step inside, and you’ll discover two distinct spaces. One is a cozy bar area, while the other is a stylish lounge offering breathtaking views of Milan’s rooftops through its expansive glass windows and doors. The ambiance is spacious, complemented by the perfect volume of music, creating a truly pleasant atmosphere.

But the highlight is undoubtedly the open terrace. Just imagine enjoying an aperitif in the warm sunset glow, overlooking the city’s palazzos from above. It’s a sight to behold! Coupled with the sophisticated ambiance and a friendly crowd, it’s an absolute delight.

When it comes to drinks, Issei is known for serving excellent cocktails. Mixology enthusiasts will be thrilled with their offerings. It’s no surprise that Milan is often regarded as the unofficial cocktail capital of Europe. And if you’re feeling peckish, their pan-Asian menu is quite impressive. I highly recommend trying the ricciola ceviche and the tuna tartare on crispy rice – they are simply unmatched.

The service at Issei is top-notch, and the best part is that it’s not overly crowded yet. Whether that’s a plus or a minus depends on your preference. In terms of pricing, the drinks are slightly above average, with cocktails ranging from 16 to 20 euros, while the tartare is a steal at just 15 euros.

This place is perfect for catching up with friends, hosting a business meeting, or enjoying a romantic evening in an elegant setting. Issei opens every evening at 6:30 PM, and you can easily reserve a table online.

Speaking of contrasting experiences, I can’t help but think of Terrazza Aperol in Piazza Duomo, which tends to attract a lot of tourists. It’s a completely different vibe, and personally, it doesn’t quite meet my expectations.

If you’re looking for other great spots for an aperitif in the city center, I suggest checking out the recommendations here and here.
